  • The Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact
    Created by those who sought to escape religious persecution in England. It was the first governing document of the "Pilgrims".
  • The Petition of Right

    England's Parliament in the time of King Charles I reign would not adhere to Charles' taxation laws until he signed the Petition of Right which would reduce the power that the king had in several manners.
  • The English Bill of Rights

    Prohibited a standing army in peace time except with the permission of parliament. All elections for parliament must be free.
  • The Albany Plan of Union

    Annual congress of delegates from each of the 13 colonies. The congtress would have the power to raise military, mae war, make peace, regulate trade, and control taxes.
  • The Stamp Act Congress

    This law required the use of tax stamps on all legal documents, certain business agreements, and on newspapers.
  • The First Continental Congress

    Parliament attempted to punish the colonies, the American colonies formed the first continental congress in opposition to this. They protested the British colonial policies, and sent the Declaration of RIghts to King George III.
