despite all the tuning in the fighter, there are always some flaws. On April of 1992 the YF-22 was lost during a landing approach. They say the system software is to bame. Because of this crash they went back to the drawing boards.....they had to rethink how to make a real fighter

In 1993 the plans for the F-22 for the Navy Advanced Tactical Fighter were dropped.

In the mid-1990's boeing teamed up with Lockheed Martin to create the F-22 Raptor. this fighter was a replacement for the F-15. This fighter took many complications to build.

By April 9, 1997 the first prodution of the F-22 Raptor was being reveiled. This was the first of nine planes built for flight testing. The ceremony was held by Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Pratt & Whitney. Boeing in Seattle, builds the wings and aft fuselage (including the structures necessary for engine and nozzle installation). Lockheed Martin built the forebody (nose, cockpit, body).

In September of 1997, the first flight test came. People were very scared to see how the fighter flew. The first fighter's wing span came to about 44 feet 6 inches, it's length was 62 feet 1 inches. It only came to pass mach 2. It was powered by two Pratt and Whitney F119-PW-100 engines. Only had to have one crew member in the fighter. and testing was done on air - to - air and ground- to - ground missles.

As of April 2005, Boeing had delivered 61 sets of wings and 66 aft-fuselages, as well as a number of integrated avionics flight-test packages and updates to Lockheed Martin. As a replacement for the F-15C, the fast, agile, stealthy F-22 was designed to take over the air superiority role with the Air Combat Command starting in 2005.

The FB-22 bomber was about to be on the frontlines but they decided to cancel their flight. Thus giving the F\A-22 the only member of the raptor family.
-
as of November of 2007, these raptor's have increased in power. From 1.5 mach now to mach 2
-
during a flight testing in May of 2011, a pilots air system failed to do it's job. going into mach 2.5 the pilot didn't have his "air" to breathe putting him unconsciousness and crashing the plane.

by today these things go fast but they want to be ablr to hit the raptor at TOP SPEED.....over 2,000 miles per hour.
