Local History Hospitals

  • The first Hospital

    The First Hospital was in the A.D Hurd house located at 1602 jackson street. The hospital was the home of registerd nurse Mrs. Hurd.
  • Second Hospital

    When Dr. Rodawig came to Spirit Lake there was a need for a new local hospital. Miss Lydia Madsen opened her home as a hospital. It was called the Spirit Lake Hospital.
  • The Third Hospital

    In 1940 Dr. Rodawig bought the "Pillars." The house got this name from the huge pillars on the front porch.The house was remodled to have 16 beds and was later increased to hold 22 beds.
  • Elavator day

    Moving Patients was dificult because they had to lift the streatchers up the long two story stair case. When they finally got an elavator it was a blessing to the staff and it was a much smoother ride for the patients
  • A plan is made

    In 1956 a group of citizens organized and promoted a campaign for the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
  • The New Hospital

    IN 1959 the new hospital finally opens.
  • Addition

    In 1973 an addition was made on the hospital. This added an X-Ray facilites plus more examining rooms.
