    Was born in Canada so first approached English instead of Chinese. Had really poor literary life. Reading and writing are not focused during these years.

    Kindergarten and Primary School

  • Kindergarten and Primary School

    Chinese and English were mandatory in kindergarten. Alphabets and basic structure of both Chinese and English. Mainly copying words and writing diaries. Cantonese, Mandarin, and English were mandatory in primary school. English mainly focuses on grammer, vocabulary, and sentence structure. Was encouraged to participate activities in english to improve speaking and listening skills. No essays were written during primary school. Cantonese mainly focuses on comprehension, essay, and story writing.

    Was fond of english cartoon. note: Cartoon Network. Learnt more terms from cartoon shows. Did not read outside of school since I did not enjoy reading.

    All three languages were mandatory in secondary school. English was seperated in 4 portions: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Enforces students to speak english during class. Had a native english teacher (British). Writing was focused on story writtng.

    Focuses on contexts, motifs, themes, and symbols in early grades. Essays were written few times a year. Spoke large amount of English due to environment. Focuses on critical thinking in later grades. Were told to write about meanings and relate it to personal experience. Five paragraph essay was taught. Similar form as Chinese essay.
