    January 1969, Nixon is sworn into office as President of the United States.

    Nixon Doctrine

    Nixon creates the Nixon Doctrine. The Doctrine was a slow process of withdrawing troops from South VIetnam and still supporting South Vietnam.
  • Detente

    The United States diplomacy where the U.S. would try and improve its relationship with China and the Sovietes. The U.S. first improved its relationship with China and recognized the communist government in 1979.
  • Watergate

    A group from Nixon's commitee went and tried to bug the Democrat's headquarters. Nixon had earlier tried to wire his employees to always listen in on them. Nixon had illegally teid to interfer and prevent the Watergate investigation.
  • Peace in Vietnam

    At the Paris Accords, an armistice was agreed between North and South Vietnam. The armistice did not end the war, but it helped start the road to ending the war. The U.S. could finally pul all of iots troops out of Vietnam.
  • Wars Power Act

    This Act was passed over Nixon's veto. This made all current and future president to talk to congrtess two days after using the military. This was in response to Nixon having secret bombing of Cambodia wihtout Congress knowing about it.
  • Nixon's Resignation

    Nixon resigns as president. AFter his involvment in the Watergate investigation and portests from citizens, Nixon decided to resign instead of being impeached.
  • Communist Vietnam

    Vietnam united as one country. The U.S. supported government of Siagon collasped. Vietnam was now a communist country.
  • Cambodian Genocide

    There is a genocide in Cambodia. The new communist ruler was Khmer Rogue. He was commiting genocide to get rid of Western influence
