Lesson 2.4

  • Gift Card Act

This act makes it illegal for most gift cards to expire in less than two years from their sell date. "Gift cards with no expiration dates are valid until redeemed or replaced" (Ohio Attorney).
  • Gift Card Defined

The Act defines what makes a gift card a gift card. "'Gift card' means a certificate, electronic card, or other medium issued by a merchant that evidences the giving of consideration in exchange for the right to redeem the certificate, electronic card, or other medium for goods, food, services, credit, or money of at least an equal value..." (Ohio Attorney).
  • Consumer Protection Laws

"The Ohio Attorney General has enforcement authority over more than 25 consumer protection laws" (Page 10). "A state or federal law designed to protect consumers against improperly described, damaged, faulty, and dangerous goods and services as well as from unfair trade and credit practices" (Dictionary).
  • Why I chose this law

I chose this law because it most interests me, I did not realize there was a law protecting these rights. This most definitely effects me; I have used gift cards before that are years old, simply because I forgot I had them.
