Lesson 1.2 War in the Pacific & in Europe Timetoast

  • 1941 Operation Barbarossa

    An invasion that began 07/22/1941 & ended on 12/05/1941 where the Germans battled to try to invade the Soviet Union. This battle was important because it slowed down the advance of the Germans thanks to the aid that was received and the weather that gave a bit of advantage.
  • 1942 The Battle of Stalingrad

    Lasting from 07/17/1942 - 02/02/1943 .This battle was important because even though the Germans would invade many parts of Stalingrad, the Soviet Union would retake them by night. There was also a huge trap that surrounded the Germans leaving them without any supplies and in temperatures below zero, thus causing the Germans to surrender.
  • 1943 The Invasion of Italy

    This battle was important because this is when the U.S troops along with British forces invaded the island of Sicily. This caused the citizens of Italy to overthrow their leader Mussolini because there was no longer faith in him in this war.
  • 1944 Battle of The Bulge

    This battle is important because it was the largest battle in Western Europe and also the largest one fought by the U.S army. Both sides of the war had high casualties but a lot of Nazi leaders at this time realized the war was coming to an end.
  • 1945 The Battle of Okinawa

    From April 1945- June 1945 this battle was important because it cleared the path to Japan for the allies. It ended with around 50,000 American casualties but at the end won
