Leonardo is born near the town Vinci, in a vilage of Anchiano. His parents, Ser Piero, a notary, and Caterina, a peasant woman, were unmarried, and the illegitimate Leonardo was raised by his father. He was also believed to be unworthy of an education, so he didn’t follow his fathers footsteps in becoming a notary.

At the age of 15 Leonardo is sent to be an apprentice of Andrea De Verroccio. 5 years later he was accepted into painters' guild of Florence.

It is said that Leonardo had a delay in his art because he could find the right face to a body and that he had someone complain about it so he wrote a letter explaining his delay and that if he couldn't find it he would paint the complainer on the body.
