    A middle schools football tryouts were restricted for boys only. A female student was unable to try out so she claimed that the school was violating her her fourteenth amendment. The district court ruled in the girls favor because the school had no justifiable reason for preventing girls from tryouts.

    Sharif by Salahuddin v. New York State Education Department
    The State of New York awarded scholarships to students based solely on SAT scores. There was evidence to show that the males were scoring higher than females on the tests, and that SAT scores were not suitable determinations of female student performance in college. When female students took this to federal court, the court determined that the state consider high school grades in conjunction with SAT scores in the determination of scholarship eligibility.

    Pfeiffer v. Marion Center Area School District
    National Honor Society NHS dismissed a female high school student after learning she was pregnant. The NHS council reasoned that her behavior was inconsistent with the values of NHS members. The district court found no violation of the females fourteenth amendment. The Court of Appeals learned the district court had ignored that NHS had failed to dismiss a male high school student who had admitted to fathering a child, the district court was ordered to consider this new evidence,

    Franklin v. Gwinnett County Public Schools
    A teacher had sexually harassed a female student. The School administration discouraged the girl from pressing charges against the teacher, when she thought to sue for monetary damages. The Supreme Court rules that the student could indeed sue for damages under Title 9.
  • Chipman v. Grant County School District

    Chipman v. Grant County School District
    National Honors Society NHS denied admission to female students who were unmarried mothers. NHS claimed that denial was based on the girls characters. The court rules that NHS chapter had violated Title 9 by discriminating against pregnant women.
