    Joined US Navy - entered bootcamp in August of 1988, moved onto "A-School" for Yeoman (naval term for secretary) in October of 1988. First official duty assignment aboard the USS Holland AS-32, serving as bookkeeper/recordkeeper for "Shop 99".

    Began employment at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa as a Claims Processor. As part of mandatory training, went through Medical Terminology classes and ICD-9/CPT-4 coding classes to process insurance claims.

    Hired on as Manager of small husband-wife podiatry clinic. Performed all insurance coding and billing, accounts receivable and payable, and performed all transcription duties, as well as surgery and lab scheduling for patients.

    Started my home transcription business. While still living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, contracted to the IntegraHealth Physicians Clinic, providing transcription services to eight different practices, including internal medicine, pediatrics, family practice, and urgent care. With the move towards digital, expanded to include hospitals in Laredo, TX; Salem, VA; Erie, PA; and Indpls, IN.

    Quality Assurance/Trainer, MT

    Indpls hospital requested that I provide QA and training to new oncoming transcriptionists. Certified as an MT, passing a 6-hour proctored examination. Provided training to all new medical transcriptionists and provided quality assurance to random medical records per JCAHO documenting guidelines, to ensure medical record legality and integrity.

    Bellevue Medical Center

    Joined the "pre-go-live" team for the opening of Bellevue Medical Center, a brand-new hospital in Bellevue, Nebraska, that opened doors on May 17, 2010. Onboarded the HIM (Health Information Management) Document Imaging portion. Doubled as an Access representative, working in the Emergency Room.
  • University of Nebraska Medical Center

    Hired on as an MT-II for the Department of Surgery. Transitioned in August of 2011 to working as the administrator for the Trauma Team.
