    Thomas MacBride purchased land from E.B. Smith on West Lake shore.
  • First Session

    First Session
    June 1909 was the first session offered by the Lakeside Lab. Twenty-six men and women attended.
  • Enrollment dropped

    Because of World War I, many men enlisted in the army.
  • College claims financial responsibility

    University of Iowa Graduate College took financial responsibility of Lakesid and resulted in a slight change of its focus.
  • Expansion

    Lakeside purchased seventy-two acres from F.G. Floete and twelve acres from J.C. Myerly to expand the grounds of the lab.
  • Civilian Conservation Corps

    Civilian Conservation Corps
    CCC workers built buildings and other things for Lakeside including the front gates and the stone laboratories.
  • Lakeside becomes state institution

    Originally a field station, Lakeside Lab became a state institution.
  • Mess Hall added

    Mess Hall added
    An old barn was moved to its current location. It has been used as the mess hall.
  • Limnology Lab

    Limnology Lab
    Limno Lab was added to Lakeside and was built on the boathouse constructed by CCC in the 30s.
  • Mahan Hall built

    Mahan Hall built
  • King Lab built

    Lab built for parasitology but is now used as a computer lab.
  • Library added

    Library added
    A one-room schoolhouse was moved to Lakeside and expanded.
  • Talk of closing

    Talk of closing Lakeside Lab, but alumni and faculty joined together to change the Regents Resources mind. This started the group Friends of Lakeside Lab.
  • Waitt Lab

    Macbride Lab
    Macbride was renovated on the inside to make it a modern lab.
  • Mahan Hall

    Mahan Hall
    Mahan Hall was renovated and equipped with a projector for presentations.
  • Regents Resource

    Iowa Lakeside Lab was designated a Regents Resource Center.
