    The first Labor Day observance occurred in New York City on Tuesday, September 5, 1882. On this day, 20,000 working people marched in New York City to demand an eight-hour work day and other important labor law reforms. With a quarter-million New Yorkers watching, the marchers paraded up Broadway, carrying signs reading, “Labor Creates All Wealth” and “Eight Hours for Work, Eight Hours for Rest, Eight Hours for Recreation.”

    Workers in Chicago marched for an 8 hour day protest for McComick Harvesting machine. Police came to break up the strike and anarchists were blamed for vilence. 8 police men were died and 100 injured the public saw unions and anarchists as a problem.

Then other boys may only get paid 50 cents depents on what they do. Most have never been inside a shcool; then the other part of them go to school after working 10 hours. Boys may have to stay down in the mines alone opening doors for the mules.

The meat they handle goes on very dirty floor and they wash there hands in the clean water that the meat goes in.

Resulted in the fourth highest loss of life from an industrial accident in U.S. history.The fire caused the deaths of 146 garment workers, who either died from the fire or jumped to their deaths.

    In flint, Michigan and other sities form december 30, 1936- february 11, 1937. The action against GM brought the tactic of sit-down strikes and there effectiveness to the attention of the general public. The stike spred to other GM plants and other sities in tother states.

Truman nationaliazed the Amerisn steel industry hours before the workers walked out. The workers struck to win a wage increase, the strike lasted 53 says and ened on july 24, 1952.

    In 1972 baseball strike was the first players strike in Major League Baseball history. The strike accrred frome April 1, 1972 to April 13, 1972. The owners and players agreed on 500,000 increase in pension funds payments and to add to salary. The team missed 86 games in 13 day period.
