  • Hassan Gets Raped

    While Hassan was getting the kite to bring to Amir "Assef yelped as he flung himself at Hassan, knocking him to the ground" (Hosseini 73). Assef has power over Hassan and Amir. This makes him feel as if he has to prove what he can do.

  • Hassan and Ali leave

    Hassan and Ali decide to move away from Baba and Amir because they "can't live here anymore" (Hosseini 106). After the incident of Hassan being raped they decide to finds a better location. This shows that Ali must have known about the rape and cared for Hassan.

  • Peace

    Peace
    Afghanistan has had small-scale peace "since 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded" (NYT).

  • First Soviet Troops

    To help the president of the time Babrak Karmal "The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul." (NYT)

  • Leaving Kabul

    To avoid the Russian invasion Amir and Baba "left Kabul just after two in the morning" (Hosseini 110). They are making a scary trip over to leave for America. This shows that they are desperate to leave Kabul and find safty.

  • Graduation

    After moving to America Amir "graduated from high school at the age of twenty" (Hosseini 131). He was behind in school and graduated later than everyone else but, he finished his education. This shows how important education is to Amir and Baba.

  • Baba Got Cancer

    Because Baba smokes, he got cancer called "Oat Cell Carcinoma" (Hosseini 156). His decision to smoke affected him later. This shows that Baba cared for living in the present and not worring about the future.

  • Amir and Soraya Got Married

    After the general accepted Amir and Soraya had "the wedding" (Hosseini 173). They got married since the General liked Amir. This proves that Amir is a good person because the General has high expectations for his daughter to marry which Amir meets.

  • Baba Dies

    Baba's cancer was spreading and one night he "never woke up" (Hosseini 173). Amir now has no father or mother leaving him only with his wife and her family. This shows that Baba had helped Amir enough and now Amir was going to have to make his own decisions for himself.

  • Amir's First Novel

    After a New York agency represented Amir he became "a published novelist" (Hosseini 183). After all of Amirs hard work he has now become honnored for his work. This shows that Amir never gives up a does what he believes will beifit him.

  • Last Soviet Troops

    Once peace has been resloved "the last Sviet troops left afghanistan" (NYT). The final and complete withdrawal of Soviet combatant forces from Afghanistan began on 15 May 1988 and ended on 15 February 1989 under the leadership of Colonel-General Boris Gromov.

  • Mullah Omar

    After, Mullah Omar lost an eye fighting the Soviets "he had nearly 12,00 followers" (NYT)

  • Pakistani Intelligence

    To help the Mullah Omar's men the "Pakistani intelligence officers began funneling arms, money and supplies" (NYT).

  • Taliban Control

    With the suport of Pakistani "the Taliban by 1996 had taken control of Afghanistan" (NYT).

  • Exile of King

    Hamid Karzai became chairman of a short-term government that took over the Taliban all because he "exiled former king of Afghanistan" (NYT)

  • Amir visits his old house

    Amir visited his old house that he had "remembered from [his] childhood" (Hosseini 262). He had so many memories living in Kabul that have impacted his life. This shows how important childhood is and how it affected Amir's life.

  • Amir fights Assef

    Amir and Assef fight because they "have some unfinished business" (Hosseini 286). They begin to fight but before Amir becomes more beat up, Sohrab shoots Assef with his slingshot. This shows that kindness pays off because Assef was never knd so Sorhab did not help him when he needed it.

  • Sohrab moves to America

    After Sohrab returned from the hospital he moved with Soraya, Amir "and America" (Hosseini 356). This shows how mcuh Amir cared for him in order to take him in. This is important because Sohrab did not have a family so Amir and Soraya became his.

  • Amir goes back to Pakistan

    Amir must go to back to Pakistan because "Rahim Khan is very sick" (Hosseini 191). Rahim Khan has inspired Amir to persure his path in writing. This shows how much Amir values him, trust his opinion and loves him dearly.

  • Amir finds out Baba's secret

    Amir finds out that Hassan is his half-brother because "Ali was sterile" (Hosseini 222). This makes Amir feel connected with Baba more become both of them have sins. This proves that you do not know anybody until you learn their mistakes.

  • Amir meets Sohrab

    Amir met his half-nephew Sohrab who stated "You are the Amir agha Father told me about" (Hosseini 298). Hassan had told his son, Sohrab about Amir and their memories. This shows how much Amir meant to Hassan because he valued his life living with Amir and Baba.

  • Sohrab Attempts Suicide

    Soharb attempts suicide so he does not half to go back to an orphanage but, "he is alive" (Hosseini 348) Amir was very worried about Sohrab and does everything he can. This demonstrates how much Sohrab means to Amir.

  • 9/11 Attacks

    The United States military has been interested and working with "Afghanistan since 2001, when it led an invasion" (NYT).

  • General Petraeus

    The Iraq commander General Petraeus "had taken charge of United States Central Command...responsibilty for military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan ans across the region" (NYT).

  • Obama's Speech

    Barack Obama gave a speech introducing "his plan to deploy 30,000 additional troops" (NYT).
