During the kite race, Amir sliced one of the kite strings and that caused the kite to, "[spin] wildly like a tire coming loose from a speeding car"(hosseini 66). -
Hassan is Raped by Assef
While protecting Amir and his kite, Hassan was raped. Even though the kite wasn't even his, "Because today, it's only going to cost you that blue kite"(Hosseini 72) -

In may of 1981, Baba and Amir were on their way to Pakistan, on the way they find out, "there would be no truck, Karim told us the truck was beyond repair"(Hosseini 120). Since they couldn't take the truck they had to behave with everyone else and Amir learned how fourtunate he really was. -
Baba and Amir live in America
When Baba and Amir moved to America, Amir said, "America was a place to bury my memories. For Baba, a place to mourn..."(Hosseini 129). By Baba moving to America with Amir, it shows that Baba was doing this for Amir not for himself. -
Baba Dies
Soon after the marriage of Amir and Soraya Baba passes away, Amir thinks to himself, "Soon [we'll] ;eave too, and for the first time ever, Baba would be all alone"(Hosseini 176). We learn that in this Amir feels guilty for making Baba move away -

During Amirs time in Pakistan, Rahim tells him about Sohrab, Hassan's son, Amir says, "They named him after Sohrab, Hassan's favorite hero..."(Hosseini 211). To atone for his sins, Amir decides to take care of Sohrab for Hassan -
