Stamp Act Congress

Oct 19, 1765

Colonies were taxed over stamps which were required for official documents. This was one of the first griavances listed.

Townshed Act

Jul 2, 1767

A series of acts used to raise revenue in the colonies. Many of these were unfair and unreasonable. Caused revolts.

Boston Massacre

Mar 5, 1770

5 citizens were killed. One of the offenses againts the colonies. Shooting without a warning to control a protest.

Boston Tea Party

May 10, 1773

Tax on tea was too high. The colonies decide to boycott the goods but it was not enough to repeal the tax. they decided to dump incoming tea into Boston's Bay.

First Continental Congress

Sep 5, 1774

Meeting held in Philadelphia . Delegates from the colonies meet to boycott goods and adopted a resolution in opposition to the Coercive Acts.

Second Continental Congress Called

May 10, 1775

Meeting in Philadelphia. The delegates decided on how to raise the army

Signed document that states the king's griavances
