Ken with the help of Ritchie created B Programming Language.

all through the 1980's Thompson and Rithchie continued revising UNIX which adopted BSD code base for the 8th, 9th, and 10th addition.

In 1980 Ken was elected into the National Academy of Engineering for UNIX.

Thompson and Ritchie both received the Turning Award for their UNIX operating system.

In the 1990's Thompson and Ritchie started working on the Inferno operating system.

Thompson and Ritchie both received the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal for the UNIX.

Ken created UTF-8 encoding with Rob Pike.

Thompson and Ritchie both jointly received the National Medal for Technology from President Bill Clinton for the UNIX.
