Birth
Joseph Stalin was born in Gori, Georgia and lived with his father and mother. His orginal name was not Joseph Stalin it was Isof Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. Gori, Georgia was a peasant village in Russia, and Joseph and his family did not have alot of money. Joseph's father was very abusive and would beat his son and wife in drunken rages. Joseph grew up in a very unstable household and was a very weak child which made him want to progress and become powerful and strong. (Liversidge) -
Smallpox
Joseph contracted smallpox making him a very sickly child and other kids would make fun of him. This feeling of loneliness is what drove Joseph to want to be repsected and have a strong leadership in his later life. The smallpox left scars on his body always reminding him of his weak and defensless younger self. Smallpox was spread all
throughout the world during Joseph's childhood and was contracted through inhaling of the disease causing scarring and inflamations of the throat.(Liversidge) -
Father Dies
Joseph Stalin's father was very abusive and made his life miserable. Joseph's father did not make much money but when he died Joseph and his mother were at a very big finacial trouble. Even through those hard times Joseph's mother worked very hard so Joseph could stay in school and become a priest. Josephs father's death didn't effect Joseph, he had beaten him and his mother so much that he had no feelings left towards his own father. (Blassingame 12-18) -
Seminary of Tiflis
Joseph's mother had worked hard for him to make better of himself and wanted him to pursue in becoming a priest. This is why she sent him to the seminary of Tiflis. Here, Joseph would be taught about becoming a priest but also about socialism. The seminary of Tiflis is a very nice school and Joseph's mother was very happy when he got a scholarship there. Expulsion
Joseph was not putting all his efforts into his studies which was causing the school officials to doubt his place in the seminary. When Joseph started to sneak out of the school to go to socialism meetings and was not following the rules is when he was expelled. After being expelled from the seminary he went back to his hometown and worked at a local observatory. Joseph began to look into socialism and the power of the government when he was expelled. First Flight
The Wright brothers had been expeirmenting with flying since 1899 and were always told that there is no possible way to fly. They're second attempt at flight started on the ground very slow. As they practiced with the controls and levers they began to become more expeirenced. The brothers ideas became popular and more people were opened up to the idea of flight which then formed the very advanced transportation that is in our time today. (Blassingame 22-34) -
Arrested
Joseph was arrested many times after his years of seminary school, but this was the first time. He was assisting in the Russian revolution and the raids in the streets of Russia. He was brought to Siberia and escaped after only serving one year of his time. When he was arrested he would always escape before completeting the full amount of time that he was sentenced for. (Blassingame 12-34) -
Five-Year Plans
As Joseph started to become more and more important in the government in Russia he began to see that Russia was not as advanced as the other countries and devised a plan. The five year plan was to increase rapid industrial growth and strengthen national defense. The plan caused large amounts of coal, steel, iron oil and electricity. While these products were being sent out there was a shortage of housing, food, clothing, and other necessary goods. Stalin had complete control over the people. -
Great Purge
Joseph Stalin went against his members of the Communist Party and executed anyone who harmed his power. The crime was a "crime against Soviet state" and would result in death. The reasons for this crime were very minor, and Joseph would accuse people of these to keep fear of him throughout the people. When the Great Purge ended it was estimated that 8 to 13 million people ad died from execuations. (BBC) -
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was an attack from the Japanese onto a harbor in Hawaii. The Japenese managed to kill more than 2,000 american soldier and sailors fighting. The day after this event president Roosevelt declared war on Japan. This entered America into World War II. -
Women's Rights
While Joseph Stalin was in ruling of the Soviet Union women had more rights and were very important in the government. Women were becoming doctors and working in all the jobs that men had. On top of the manual labor jobs the women had now they also still had to care for the household and the children which was considered a job in Russia. Women were expected to raise
obidient and loyal children, women had many high expectations set. (Liversidge 130-168) -
First Kidney Transplant
Organ transplants were not a new idea in human civilization, this idea had been brought up since long before it was ever actually attempted. The process was very worrisome and made doctors very nervous because of the recovery process and weather the body would accept the kidney. The kidney transplant was succesful and opened up new oppurtonities to the science and health worlds. -
Death
Joseph Stalin's death was caused by a stroke at the age of 74. His death was a relief to many, he was the cuase of around 10 million deaths. Shortly after his death his body was placed in the Hall of Commons. After being in the Hall of Commons for a short time he was taken to Lenin's tomb and permanitly buried there. Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll music devolped from a mixture of blues and country and a but of techno music. Rock and roll began to play on the radio and became very popular. It was very
popular in younger kids and teens because they became bored with their parents and grandparents music. Rock and roll is a fun and jazzy mixture and was a big influence on the kids of that time. -
Cigerettes Cause Cancer
Cigerettes were and are very popular amongst the people of the America, but before 1954 people thought they were mostly harmless. People thought that they wouldn't get addicted and it was just a social activity. When people found out that it causes cancer they understood but didn't or just couldn't stop their addiction. -
Alaska Becomes a State
Alaska had always been a part of Russia and when Alaska became a part of the United States it was very exciting. Alaskans voted to be apart of the United States for the equalness.
