French and Indian War

In this war,Great Britian fought against France for the Ohio River Valley. Indians stopped helping the French. Great Britian won.

Proclamation of 1763

This proclamation was written by King George III. This document restricted English speaking colonist settle west of the Appalachian Mountians . Most colonist were unhappy.

Stamp Act

Parliment made an act to put a tax on all printed paper to pay for the French and Indian War.

Boston Massacre

One night outside of the customs house a mob of colonist threw snowballs at a gaurd. More gaurds came later.

Boston Tea Party

May 10, 1773

This event was led by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere threw chests of tea into Boston Harbor to protest the Tea Act.

1st Continental Congress

Dec 5, 1774

This meeting was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania every colony came to the meeting exept Georgia to discuss problems with Great Britain.

Battles of Lexington and Concord

These battles were the first armed conflict between settlements and a mother country. The Massachusettes Miltia, also known as the minutemen, fought.

Battle of Saratoga

This battle was a victory for the Continental Army. After this battle the French became allies. This was the turning point of the war.

Surrender at Yorktown

Oct 19, 1781

This battle was the end of the war. Lord Cornwallis had to surrender to the American General named George Washington.

Treaty of Paris

The Treaty of Paris gave the American Colonies independence west of the Appalachian Mountians until the Mississippi. This was very good for America.
