    John Polkinghorne was born in Weston-super-Mare on October 16, 1930, to his mother Dorothy Charlton. John had a sister, Ann, who passed away when she was only 6 years old. Polkinghorne also had a brother, Peter, who passed away in 1942 while flying for the Royal Air Force during World War 2.

His approach to the foundations of Christianity brought him to his international fame as a unique voice for understanding the Bible.
