In 1947, the John C. Lodge Expressway began construction in Detroit. This freeway compromised the location of many buildings, and the Advance Glove Factory was forced to shift its location to Lafayette and Fifth Street as a result.

In 1983, John K. King's Bookstore was transferred to the abandoned Advance Glove factory, after having purchased the four-story building. This location on 901 West Lafayette still serves as the current base of operation for the bookstore.
