    Goro Ojima is a small 10 year old Japanese farmer. He is the youngest in hes family of 7 that is bearly able to pay off their current taxes. After the Meiji Restoration the Japanese gvernment Urbinized and modernized. In order for the government to pay for this they gave heavy taxes to farmers. Goro and his family had their land get taken away from them because they couldn't pay their taxes. They needed a better way to get money.     As Goro and his famly were sailing across the North Pacific Ocean they saw the American land come into sight. They noticed several skiffs full of people boating towards the larger boat. Goro thought the boats were coming to great them or pull the boat to the shore but cole saw a feerfull look in his parrents faces.     ...to see what was happening. The Shis was being pirated by what looked like Irish and russian immigrants who hated the idea of Asians in America. Goro waited even longer until he knew they were gone. He came out of hiding and found his family and everyone else on board, dead. He swam to shore and tried to act as if that had never happen and go on with immagration as a single traveler.

    When Goro arrived in America he went throught immagration and got land. He payed little taxes and later made alot of money. His family not being their was not becoming a problem for paying off money.

    As time passed and Goro became older he owned his own land and made good money off of his crops. He was doing well for himself. He also got a job at a sweatshop making alot of money a day. He was often givena smaller pay because of discrimination but he never let thet stop him.

  • Moving West

    Moving West
    Several years passed and Goro became a full ground adult. He had heard of better land in California. He heard about the Lewis and Clark expaditions and all the land available in the west. He chose to venture in that direction for better land.

    Durring Goro's travels west he got involved in the leftover fiewd with the Native Americans. He was proudly apart of the Farmers, Loggers, and Fisherpeople group. Goro felt bad for the Natives because he was taking their land bu he knew he needed the land to make money.

    When Goro finally settled in California he got a large peice of land for free. He got another job that paid well. He used all of the land for farming and made good money for the next several years.
