A jail's palce in the corrections :
Jail will hold the offernder until the trail process is complete. Holding anywhere from a few hours up to servel months. In 1166 King Henery II had the frist jail set up which as called a GAOL. Also offernders awaiting trail , the poor, and mentally ill. -
In the early 1800's the federal inmates were helded in a State prion. Up until til 1870, after the estabishment of the U. S Departmant of Justice. State Holds violent crime , property and drug crimes up until it is a felony charge. The Warden of a State Prison was more freedom in the rules at the prison.

Violent offenders are receiving much longer sentencings and over all numbers increace with new inamtes arriving.
As more drug offences are becoming felonies the federal prisons have had growth within.
The jails will continue to hold and detain the offerders until the trail procees is over. -
In federal prisons the security levels are minimum, low, medium, and high or maximum. State also has these security levels but it has a central reception area.
