  • Second Bank of America

    The Second Bank of America is established after Madison who had been against the establishment of a national bank finally gave in and signed an act to establish the Second Bank of America.

    First Bank President

    William Jones was the first president of the bank, after he resigned in 1819 Langdon Cheves an attorney was elected as president of the bank. He took more control of the bank branches.
  • Second Bank of America opens

    The Second Bank of America is opened in Philidelphia on April 7th, 1817.

    Second Bank President

    In 1823 Cheves withdrew his name for reelection and Nicholas Biddle became head of the bank, with his guidance animosity towards the bank which contributed to more economic growth.
  • Request to renew Bank Charter

    In 1832 after Jackson's re-election a request was sent to Congress to renew the bank's charter. The president of the bank Biddle pressured Jackson into approving a new charter which ended up working.
  • Demise of the Bank

    The original bank charter was set to expire in 1836.
  • 1840 Election

    After the election of President William Henry Harrison who defeated Van Buren who was Jackson's vice-president, it took away the power from Jackson's anti-bank plans.
