Around 1845 the great potato famine began in irland. Many potatoes were lost and many farmers lost their farms like me patrick west a potato farmer in Ireland this was caused by a airborne fungus which caused the potatoe and their leaves to turn black.
-
Due to the potato famine in Ireland many irish potato farmers such as my self moved to America in hope of new land and better land to farm on.
-
Many irish farmers at this time are now in americalike me and we are doing very well with our potato farms but the land in the east is not very good we need to find better land.
-
although us potato farmers were able to grow on the east the land was not great and we herd talk of much better land in the Oregon territory so many of us farmers moved west in hope for even better land to live on
-
many farmers found the land in the west great and we thrived on the new land the potatos grew massive and the farmers and myselfr were making good money on our potatos farms
-
although the farming was good, in the later years the farmers and I found out that the winters were cold and it rained alot this was bad for the us and ruined many of the crops and killed the livestock but farming was still great in the summer and spring so many farmers stayed like me and lived on for the rest of our live as potato farmers.
