Roland was sent west with his 2 friends Cuthbert and Alain. They were sent west to be out of the way of the coming battle with John Farson. Little is Known about John Farson, except he has modern weapons such as tanks and machine guns. Roland and his friends used fake names and pretended they were on a punishment patrol so they had to count everything the town of Hambry had in it. Roland went as Will Dearborn, Cuthbert went as Richard Stockworth, and Alain went as Arthur Heath.

JOHN FARSON AND GILEAD

John Farson is the enemy of the Affiliation. The Affiliation is a group of many different kingdoms that banded together under the rule of Arthur Eld. John Farson is someone who opposes the Affiliation and will kill anyone who stands in the way of accomplishing his goal of destroying Gilead, the capital city of the Affiliation.

Blaine the Mono

Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake beat Blaine the Mono in his riddling contest with illogical riddles. Blaine's logic circuits are fried and he derails. Everyone gets off safely. The group comes across a Thinny, which is a hole in reality. This reminds Roland of his past, and he tells his friends about what happened to him.

Susan

Period: 169 to 507

Susan is a girl in Roland's past. She is this years Reaping Girl, which is kind of like prom queen but for the whole town. There is a whole festival. She meets Roland while riding back from the witch Rhea's house. She was there so the witch could make sure she was a virgin because her aunt had a deal with the mayor. Susan's family will get all their property back if Susan has sex with the mayor. Roland and Susan fall in love. They keep this secret to avoid getting in trouble.

Big Coffin Hunters

Eldred Jonas, Roy Depape, and Clay Reynolds are in a gang called The Big Coffin Hunters. They are in everybody's buisness, secret and overt. Roland and his friends Cuthbert and Alain see Roy Depape harassing a waiter at a local bar. Depape pulls a gun, and Cuthbert shoots him through the hand with his slingshot. Reynolds then holds a knife against Cuthbert's back. Alain holds a gun against Reynolds' head, and then Jonas Holds a knife on HIM. Then Roland Holds a knife on Jonas.

They are all taken to the police station, run by the corrupt Sheriff Avery. They are all let go with a warning, and Jonas vows that the 3 boys will never surprise him or his friends again.

CITGO

Roland and Susan are out late on night and they stumble upon an old oil field called CITGO. Susan says that there hadn't been oil in the pipes for centuries. Roland wants to see for himself because he heard from his father that John Farson has weapons that use oil to work. He turns a valve and oil comes gushing out of the pipe. The next day, he and his friends poke around a little and find 6 huge oil trucks with full tanks covered in bushes.

The mayor is killed by Depape. He puts the "Lookout" on the mayors desk. The "Lookout" is a bird skull that Cuthbert dropped when he shot Depape in the hand. Reynolds kills the Chancellor with a knife similar to one that Roland owns. Reynolds thinks about when he first came to the town and met the Chancellor. Reynolds was wearing a cloak and the Chancellor said something to him that meant "cloak" where he was from. Where Reynolds was from, it meant homosexual.

Many of the men of the town march up to Roland, Alain, and Cuthbert's bunkhouse holding pitchforks and torches. Some even have guns, which are pretty rare in this time. The lead rancher is about to kill Cuthbert when Jonas tells him not to. Jonas says that he doesn't want them harmed because he wants to give them to Farson. As he is being taken to the jail, Roland says to Jonas "You'll live as an exile and die as you lived." Jonas pulls his gun out and aims at Roland's head.

Eldred Jonas was one of the first Gunslingers. To become a Gunslinger, you have to challenge your teacher and beat him. If you fail, you are banished to the west. Cort was Roland's teacher. Roland beat him when he was 15. Jonas's teacher was Cort's father. Jonas challenged him and failed, which caused him to be banished to the west.
