Causes of American Revolution

  • Period: to

    French and Indian War

    Fought between British America, and New France. Began with the dispute over control of the Alleghency and Monoganela rivers.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The purpose was to organize new North's American empire and to stabilize relationship with Native North Americans through regulation of trade, land, and settlement.
  • Sugar Act

    During the Molasses Act, colonists were required to pay 6 pence per gallon on the importation of foreign molasses. They mostly avoided this act because the English product would be cheaper that the British West Indies. This hurt the British West Indies market in molasses and sugar, so they reduced the tax of 6 pence to 3.
  • Stamp Act

    This Act forced as a direct tax on British American colonies meaning anything they used to make something out of had to be printed on stamped paper
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act was an act to make colonists pay taxes so they could pay governors and judges. The colonists didn't like it because the providence of New York failed to comply with the 1765 Quartering Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    The British armies killed 5 male civilians and injured 6 others. It happened because a mob formed around a British sentry who was subjected to verbal abuse and harassment.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Demonstrations destroyed an entire shipload of tea sent by the East Indian Company, due to the tea act in 1773. The result of the Boston Tea Party was the Intolerable Acts.
  • Intolerable Acts

    In retalliation to The Boston Tea Party, King George IIl passed the Intolerable Acts. He did this to punish the colonists for dumped the tea into the harbor at the Boston Tea Party. The colonists didn't like it so they decided to dump a ship load of tea into The Boston Harbor.
