    The Depression was perhaps the worst economic disaster in recent history. Thousands found themselves homeless, millions were unemploymed. Drought caused by poor farming practices harshly affected agricultural output. As aspects of Roosevelt's New Deal were enacted people went to work and farmers became educated. The beginning of World War II may have also contributed to the end of the Depression as war put millions of people to work, building planes, tanks, guns, and other munitions.

    The bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese forced the United States in to the war. The entire nation focused their efforts to aiding in the war effort. People rationed gas and food; millions of factories were dedicated to producing ships, planes, tanks, and other munitions. No new cars, houses, appliances, or other non-essentials were made; so, by the end of the war many Americans had saved money and were ready to spend it.
