The Start of the Great Depression - Dark Tuesday
Dark Tuesday was the day that started the Great Depression, the stock market has crashed. Many people had no jobs by 1933 and many were homeless as well. Even President Herbert Hoover attempted to fix the crisis but he was unable too. -
Miracle at Dunkirk
This was an important day because over 340 000 prisioners escaped from Dunkirk. Hitler decides to retreat for a while and this got British got to escape by sea by using all sorts of different boats. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
This battle was between the Japanese and the Americans at Hawaii on December 7th, 1941. They were attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, causing all eight of the US Navy battleships to get damaged, 4 being sunk. This was important because Japan got victory, US declaration of war on the Empire of Japan and German & Italy declared war to the United States. -
Battle of Hong Kong
The Battle of Hong Kong took place from December 8 - December 25, 1941. Canada, Britian and Indian forces had helped Hong Kong but were lacking troops, while Allies had 14 000, Japan had 52 troops. This was an important day because this was when Hong Kong had surrendered to the Empire of Japan and 10 000 troops were captured and were sent to camps all around Japan. -
Final Solution
In 1942, Nazi German's wanted to get rid of all Jewish people; Nazi's hated Jews because they thought they were the cause of World War One and thought they were different. Fianl Solution was important because Nazi's only wanted Germans to live in Germany. -
Dieppe
The battle of Dieppe was a terrible start for the Allies, many Canadian troops were lost during battle and many allied troops were taken as prisoners. This battle was an important because they got to learn from their mistakes and got to improve for the next war, D Day. -
D Day
D Day was the largest seaborne invasion, this battle was between the Germans and Allies at Normandy South, The Allies wanted to trick the Germans so they made a plan to send them to Pas de Calais. This was an important event because this got Germans to fight 3 different fronts: east, south and west. -
VE Day
VE Day is also known as "Victory Europe". VE Day is a day that represents when Germany surrendered to the Allied forces. Benito Mussolini and Hitler both had died during this time. Since Hitler was no longer alive, the war was basically over. This is important because the war against the Germans ended and the Allies had won. -
United Nations
June 26th, 1945 was the day the United Nations charter was signed. Before the Second War ended, everyone wanted world peace so everyone thought of creating an international organization to secure the world's peace. 51 countires had gone to San Francisco to discuss the principles of the new organization. They wanted to work together to encourage cooperation among countries, to defend human rights, and to improve living conditions for people around the world. This was a successful organization. -
VJ Day
This was the day Japan surrendered to the Allied forces which also makes it the last war of the Second World War. September 2nd 1945 is also VJ Day because that was when they signed the instrument of surrender. This was the most important event to remember because it ended the war of all wars and the Allies won over the Japanese.
