    George W. Bush beats Al Gore in the 2000 Presidential Election. It was the closest presidential election in history with .009% margin (537 votes). At first, Al Gore won, but Bush demanded a recount and so the court led a 5-4 decision to Bush's victory.
  • Wakefield Massacre

    Wakefield Massacre
    The Wakefield Massacre occurred at Edgewater Technology, where gunman, Michael McDermott, killed 7 co-workers. He used an AK-47, a shotgun, and a pistol. He repeatedly fired in the back of the victim's head. McDermott was found guilty of seven counts of first degree murder. He was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
  • Kyoto Protocol

    Kyoto Protocol
    This is an international treaty that includes the participating nations under an agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reduce global warming. George W. Bush said that climate change was very important, but he opposed it because it excludes 80% of the world and can cause harm to the U.S. economy.

    On 9/11, there were 4 terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda. The attacks killed 3,000 people and $3 trillion in costs. 4 airplanes were hijacked by 19 terrorists. 2 crashed into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York City. 1 crashed into the Pentagon. The last one aimed for Washington D.C., but veered off course and crashed into Shanksville.

    It is a crossover action game published by Nintendo and developed by HAL Laboratory. It uses damage with increasing percentages, not a decreasing health bar. It also includes many characters from other games like Mario, Pokemon, Star Fox, and Legend of Zelda. It was GameCube's best selling game.

    No Child Left Behind Act reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act that gave disadvantaged students support by setting new standards and measurable goals. States had to make standardized assessments to receive federal funding. The act forced states to develop their own standards, not make a national one. It stressed the importance of annual testing, progress reports, and teacher qualifications.

    George W. Bush used this term as a generalization of governments that sponsor terrorism and make weapons of mass destruction, included among this are Iran, Iraq, and North Korea. The idea of an axis was used to rally support for the war on terrorism. Criticism of Bush's term revolved around the idea that he was misguided and that it obscured their differences by grouping them together.

    Bush states that it was an end to operations in Iraq, but Bush's certainty was controversial after guerilla warfare in Iraq increased. Most casualties occurred after the speech. The banner stating "Mission Accomplished" was criticized as a premature celebration.

    The Human Genome project was an international research project that sequenced the base pairs of DNA and mapping all the genes in a physical format. The project was started in 1990 and finished in 2003. The U.S. government and many other groups funded the project. Most of the sequencing was done in research centers all around the world. At first, it focused on mapping nucleotides with a reference genome.
  • Dewey the Deer Clone

    Dewey is the first deer cloned on this day. He is a white-tailed deer cloned from a dead buck in Texas. He was cloned from skin grafts taken from the deceased deer. The donor scored a 232 on the Boone and Crockett scale, which measured the size of the antlers. Since it is a clone, it is expected to have the same score on this scale.
