This was the longest battle in World War 2. This battle is where the Navy played the biggest part. America was fighting Germany, and ended up defeating them in 1945. Over 100,000 people died in this war. If America would have lost this battle they would have run out of resources, which most likely would have made them lose the war. -

This battle was between the Soviet Union and Germany. The Russians extremely outnumbered the Germans in manpower and equipment. Russia had 1.25 million soldiers. In total the war had over 1.2 million casualties. Winning this battle prevented Germany from taking Russia's capital. -

The U.S did this because they wanted the war to come to an abrupt end while limiting U.S casualties. This is significant because it is the only time atomic weapons of mass destruction have been used in warfare.
