    The allergen first enters the body.
  • 2.

    The immune system recognizes a "foreign invader" and antibody is formed. An antibody is a protein in the body that detects harmful substances.

    The allergen enters the body again.
  • 3.

    The antibody attaches itself to the cells throughout the body. Now, when the allergen is present again it is ready.
  • 5.

    The antibodies throughout the body now detect the allergen and the allergen bind to them.
  • 6.

    A signal is now sent out to the body and it releases a large amount of histamine. Histamine causes an immune response and triggers the reaction.
  • 7.

    Food allergens and food intolerances may look very similar but make sure that before any drastic moves are made to know which is occurring.
