An individual consumes an allergen, or substance that creates an allergic reaction for the first time.
-
The body will create an antibody, or a protein that detects harmful substances after a substance is consumed.
-
The antibody will then attach itself to cells that are found in tissues all over the body. This helps prepare the body if the allergen re-enters the body.
-
When the food allergen re-enter the body, the allergen secures to the antibodies sending out signals among the body. This will release an extent amount of histamine.
-
The histamine will cause irritation as well as swelling of the body.
-
The results will vary, depending on the person. This can range from mild hives, shortness of breath, even anaphylaxis. (Can cause death).
