  • John D. Rockefeller Creates Standard Oil

    John D. Rockefeller created the Standard Oil company on January 10, 1870. He created this company with his business partners and brother. Rockefeller was one of the first world's first billionaires.

  • The Great Oklahoma Land Race

    The land run started around noon on April 22, 1889. There were an estimated 50,000 lined up to start, seeking to gain a piece of the available two million acres that were Indian territory. To push the Natives out of their land to expand the country.
  • Ellis Island Opens to Process Immigrants

    Ellis Island was opened as an immigration station on January 1, !892. The first person that went through the immigration deportation station was a seventeen-year-old girl named Annie Moore. She was from County Cork, Ireland. Ellis Island is a federally owned island in New York Harbor. Ellis Island was the busiest immigration inspection and processing station in the United States.

  • J.P. Morgan Founds U.S. Steel

    J. P. Morgan formed U.S. Steel on March 2, 1901 (incorporated on February 25), by financing the merger of Andrew Carnegie's Carnegie Steel Company with Elbert H. Gary's Federal Steel Company and William Henry "Judge" Moore's National Steel Company for $492 million ($16.03 billion today).

    Angel Island was a new immigration station that opened on January 21, 1910. It also became a major port of entry to the U.S. for Asia and other immigrants coming from the west. Later the name was changed to China Cove.
