  • End of the French and Indian War

    End of the French and Indian War
    This war was fought between Britain and France in North America(Tindall Shi 112). The fight was over the land in the Ohio River valley, which originally belonged to the ancestors of the Indians.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    King Georege III ordered this following Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War. This proclamation forbade all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountians (Adelman 1331).
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765
    This act outlined the locations and conditions in which British soldiers are to find room and board in the American colonies. The act also required American colonies to house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies. New York did not like this act too well, so they refused to comply (History.com Staff).
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    This act was also known as the First Congress of the American Colonies. It was a meeting held between October 7th and 25th of 1765 in New York City. It was the first gathering of elected representatives to discuss a protest against the new British taxation.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This event was a street fight between a patriot mob and British soldiers. It started with throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, but ended with gun shots. Several colonist were killed (History.com Staff).

    This was a meeting of delegates at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Only twelve of the thirteen colonies showed up. Georgia did not show up. They went over things like economic boycott of British trade, rights and grievances, etc (History. com staff Web).

    Four of these acts were placed due to the Boston Tea Party by the British Parliment. They were meant to punish Massachusetts colonists for throwing the tea in the Boston harbor (Post 616).

    These battles were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. They took place in Middlesex County of Lexington and Concord (Boisson 66).

    This meeting was mainly for creating more independence for the colonies. The colonies then became the United States and then adopted the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 (Post 619).

    This article was adopted by the Continental Congress. It served as the United States' first Constitution from March 1, 1781 til 1789.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    This new act required all American colonies to pay a tax on every piece of paper they used. These paper products included legal documents, newspapers, playing cards, licenses, etc. The money collected from these taxes was suppose to go to support the American frontier near the Appalachian Mountains (History.com Staff).
  • New York Campaign (Battle of Long Island)

    New York Campaign (Battle of Long Island)
    This was the beginning of a campaign to give British control of the city of New York. It was also the first battle to be fought after the United States had declared it's Independence (History.com Web).
  • Battle of Princeton

    Battle of Princeton
    This battle took place at Princeton, New Jersey. It was General George Washington and his troops against British forces. George Washington won with a sneak attack (Boisson 69).
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    General John Burgoyne led a large army toward Champlain Valley from Canada. Unfortunately he never made it. American forces surrounded him and on October 17th he was forced to surrender his entire army.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    Lead by George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau against General Charles Cornwallis. Cornwallis had to surrender himself and his army, forcing the British government to negotiate with America.
  • Constitutional Convention

    Did not end til September 17, 1787.
  • Ratification of the Constitution

    Ratification of the Constitution
    First Congress of the United States adopted 12 amendments to the Bill of Rights.
