IDEA 2004
reautorization of IDEA. Changes made from the 1997 act. This new law calls for many chages, the most notable being accountablility at state & local level for more data on octcomes, establishes a Response to Intervention (RTI) as a 3-tiered model of screeening, monitoring, and intervention, and modifications to the IEP process. This act better alligns IDEA with NCLB. -
Kitzmiller v Dover Area School District
U.S. district court decision ruling that teaching 'intelligent design' is unconstitutional and being taught as an alternative to evolution is a violation of the First Amendment. -
Carl D. Perkins Vocational & Applied Technologies Act
First authorized in 1984, reauthorized in 1998. This 2006 authorization strengthened connection between primary & secondary education; but also requireed programs to link academic and technical content across secondary & post secondary education. This law changed wording from vocational education to career & technical education. -
ESEA
A blueprint for revision of the Elementary & Secondary Education Act. A challenge to the nation released by the Obama adminstration to embrace education standards leading America down a path towards Global Leadership. It provide incentives for states and creates an accountability system to measure student growth towards a goal that all children graduate HS & succeed in college
