The Reaping is the start to the Hunger Games. Two teenagers are chosen from each district to compete. Names are drawn out of a bowl, one male and one female. -
They first chose from the male bowl and Peeta Mellark is chosen. They then choose from the female bowl. Primrose Everdeen is chosen, which is Katniss's Everdeens sister. Katniss then volunteers as tribute so her sister does not have to go. -
All 24 of the participants from 12 districts are presented to the citizens of the Capitol so they can begin betting on people. The citizens can spend lots of money to send "care packages" to the participants. -
Each of the participants needs to practice their skills. Katniss is good with a bow and Peeta is good at art. Katniss is not very good at making friends or being social. They need to be prepared to be rated by game makers. -
One by one participants go in to be ranked. District 12 goes last due to them being the last district. The participants have time to go show the game makers there skills. This will than let the sponsors know the chances of someone winning. Katniss was ranked 11 out of 13 which surprised everyone. -
Each participant is interviewed by Caeser Flickerman. This shows the Capitol the participants personalities. When Peeta is being interviewed he confesses his love for Katniss which is important for his survival. Katniss's dress is amazing and shows the Capitol that she is "The Girl on Fire". -
Katniss gets a tracker in her arm, and she is thrusted into a woodland environment with the other 23 participants including peeta. There is a bunch of supplies at the cornucopia. -
Katniss is encountered with Peeta and his group of friends. She climbs up a tree so they won't get her. In the morning she seems a hive of Tracker Jackers. She ends up cutting down the hive and nit lands on the group. Two people die from the bee's. Katniss is stung and passes out. -
Katniss wakes up from her bee venom induced sleep and meets the 12-year old participant named Rue. Rue had rapped up Katniss in leaves. Katniss and Rue come up with an idea to destroy cornucopia. Katniss ends up destroying the food so they are at an advantage. Rue is then captured and killed. Katniss kills the boy who killed rue. Katniss has a ceremony for Rue. -
Katniss finally finds Peeta. Peeta is really hurt, so Katniss decides to go to the corapcopia to get him some medicine. Luckily she gets it and it helps him. Peeta and Katniss kiss which sparks sponsors. After this Peeta finds berries that are posionous and someone steals them and dies. At this time there are only 3 participants left.
