Humphrey DeForest Bogart was born on christmad day in 1899 in New York City, New York. His father Belmont DeForest Bogart was a surgeon and his mother Maude Bogart who was a magazine illustrator.

It is said that Bogart spent most of his career ferrying troops between the U.S. and Europe. He was a model sailer. One of the many theorys on how Bogart recieved his lisp from the cut on his lip came from the navy.

After the stock crash of 1929, the demand for plays became slimmer, this ultimately turned bogart to film. Bogart ended up gaining a contract with fox in 1930. Fox ended up releasing him just after two years.

A breakthrough role for Bogart. He won the stage role over Edward G. Robinson because of his physical resemblance to Dillinger, Bogart studied film footage of the gangster and mimicked some of his mannerisms in his portrayal.This film was the start of Bogarts professional film career.

Bogart was 57 when he died of esophagus cancer. He had been a heavy smoker all his life. He ended up getting his two lymph nodes removed as well as his esophagus. He was just 80 pounds when he died. Bogart was cremated, his remains are buried in Forest Memorial Park in California.
