    English became the language used for trading in India. A special dictionary called Hobson Jobson was made to explain the meanings of these words. Many native Indian people thought that if they learned English a new world would open up to them. Enlgish ruled it also gave them cultural freedom. The popularity of Enlgish has helped create two new languages: Binglish and Hinglish.

    Ships load up with guns and manufactured goods in Britanin, then sail four months to West Africa. Finally, the ships loaded up with sugar, tobacco and cotton and sailed back to England. Engalnd became so powerful because they could manufacture expensive goods from the cheap raw materials from America. the slaves used manyEnglish words, which they mixed with their native language. Many words in Creole were borrowed from the indigenous population and are now used in the English language.

    Australia
    In Australia was the first fleet of eleven ships, which held about 780 English people. These were not free people but many of them were criminals who were transported for life. This meant that they hav commited a crime in England and as a punishment they were sent to live in Australia and were not allowed to return to England. Words for example Billy is pot for boiling water and tucker means food. These words are all 18th century words but they are still used in Australia.
