  • First Horror Movie

    The first horror movie was made - 'The House Of The Devil'
  • Hollywood Dramas used Horror Themes

    This included versions of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) and The Monster (1925)
  • Golden Age in the 30's

    A string of successful gothic horror films was released, including Frankenstein and Dracula
  • Shift in Sub-genre

    With advances in technology, the tone of horror films shifted from the Gothic towards contemporary concerns. Two sub-genres began to emerge: the horror-of-armageddon film and the horror-of-the-demonic film
  • New types of horror movie

    A stream of (usually low-budget) productions featured humanity overcoming threats from "outside": alien invasions and deadly mutations to people, plants, and insects. In the case of some horror films from Japan, such as Godzilla (1954), mutation from the effects of nuclear radiation were featured.
  • Horror movies were made more edgy

    This was to reflect the time period and featured more controversial amounts of violence.
  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre released

    Included high levels of controversial violence
  • Friday the 13th released

  • Silence of the lambs released

    Lead to further large scale horrors being produced
  • Modern Horror

    Twenty first century horrors include things such as Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring, but also includes remakes of films such as The Ring and Friday the 13th
