    Capone is convicted for tax evasion after years of involement in bootlegging and gambling, mostly in chicago.
  • Amelia Earhrt flys across Atlantic

    Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly solo across the atlantic ocean.
  • F.D.R is elected for president

    Franklin Delano Roosevelt is elected president in a landslide over Herbert Hoover. Roosevelt receives 22.8 million popular votes to Hoover's 15.75 million.
  • Buisness men try to overthrow Roosevelt

    Alarmed by Roosevelt's plan to redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor, a group of millionaire businessmean, led by Du Pont and J.P. Morgan empires, plans to overthrow Roosevelt with a military coup and install a facist government modelled after Mussolini's regime in Italy. The buisnessmen try to recuit General Smedley Butler, promising him an army of 500,000, unlimited financial backing and generous media spin control. The plot is foiled when Butler reports it to Congress.

    The economy turns around: GNP rises 7.7 percent, and unemployment falls to 21.7 percent. A long road to recovery begins.
  • Hindenbrg

    The Hindenburg, a German airship carrying passengers planning to attend the coronation festivities of Queen Elizabeth in London, explodes in Lakehurst, N.J., killing 36 people.
  • Roosevelt enlarges the Supreme Court

    Roosevelt seeks to enlarge and therefore liberalize the Supreme Court. This attempt not only fails, but outrages the public.

    Another dust strom hits the West and Midwest. Economic recory comes to a halt, sending the economy of the region into a second depression and local morale to a new low.

    African American athelte Jesse Owens wins four gold medals at the Berlin Olympics in front of Adolf Hitler, who has recently begun his campaign for the "domincance" of the Aryan race.
