    Stamp act.
    The bill was passed on February 17, approved by the Lords on March 8th, and two weeks later ordered in effect by the King. The Stamp Act was Parliament's first serious attempt to assert governmental authority over the colonies. Due to the 7 years war, the goverment needed money to get out of debt. That was the main reason for the stamp act.

  • The Townshed Act.

    The Townshed act, placed new taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Colonial reaction to these taxes was the same as to the Stamp Act, and Britain eventually repealed all the taxes except the one on tea.

    aunch the final spark to the revolutionary movement in Boston. The act was not intended to raise revenue in the American colonies, created a new tax. It was made to prop up the East India Company which was failing financially and had yet to sell eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. This tea was to be shipped directly to the colonies, and sold at a lower price.
