    The main purpose of America’s Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies had chosen to separate themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War had already begun, and several major battles had already taken place. The American colonies had already cut most major ties to England, and had established their own congress, currency, army, and post office.

    The Continental Congress wrote the Articles of Confederation during the Revolutionary War. The articles were written to give the colonies some sense of a goverment. There were many problems to this form of Constition ,every state had it's own rules and was as independent as you could be.

    The Constitutional Convention of May 1787 was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where delegates from 12 of the 13 states were present. The state of Rhode Island refused to send a delegate because it was afraid of losing its states' rights. The delegates worked for 4 months behind closed doors of the State House to draft a new document known later as the "Constitution."

    One of the first two American political parties, together with the Democratic-Republican Party. Founded by Alexander Hamilton and John Adams. Met its demise soon after Hamilton was killed in a duel. Adams was the only Federalist President. Name came from the Federalist Papers and from the idea that the federal government should be supreme.
