  • Tuscarora Indians lived in North Carolina

    Tuscarora Indians lived in North Carolina
    Tuscarora Indians lived in the Wake County area. The children made dolls out of cornhusks. Men and boys liked to go fishing and hunting and liked to play Lacrosse. These indians made wampum out of white and purple shell beads and used it as money. This was Wake County's first community.

    The Beginning of the Tuscarora War
    Settlers had taken land away from the Tuscarora Indians. A war started because the Tuscarorans got mad and started a fight with the settlers. The war lasted for four years, and a lot of Tuscarora Indians died. The settlers won.

    Settlers move to Wake County to start farms
    In the 1730's, English and Scotch-Irish Settlers moved to Wake County to start farms. When farms come into the community, people have more food to eat, and the population grows. Also, the community makes more money.
  • Wake County was formed

    Wake County was formed
    The county lines were made and a courthouse was built. It has now become the second largest county in the state.
  • Raleigh Becomes the State Capital

    Raleigh Becomes the State Capital
    The capital was once in a town called New Bern. At the end of 1792, it was moved to Raleigh because there were more jobs, more room, and more money. Joel Lane sold some of his land to make Raleigh the new state capital.

    The railroad in North Carolina helped get people places faster and moved granite blocks for the construction of the Capitol. It helped the people that worked at the train station get more money. The railroad brought more people to the area to build houses and businesses.
  • The original Wake Forest University was founded

    The original Wake Forest University was founded
    Wake Forest University was founded in Wake Forest, North Carolina. It first was for teaching Baptist Ministers, and the students had to work on local plantations. The town of Wake Forest grew around the school.
  • Pullen Park Opens

    Pullen Park Opens
    This park has amusement park rides. It is the 5th oldest amusement park in the United Stated, and the first public park in North Carolina. This made people happy and helped them have fun. This makes the population grow.
  • Research Triangle Park (RTP) was formed

    Research Triangle Park (RTP) was formed
    The Research Triangle Park is a business park between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. This created more jobs, and the population increased. Integration of schools with the RTP helped more kids graduate. The RTP brings technology to the area. It also has brought more hospitals.
