    YMCA was founded by George Williams in 1844

    William G. Morgan, a physical education teacher from the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachutts wanted to come up with a sport that older men could play. When William's first evented Volleyball he called it Mintonette.

  • First credit the sport received

    First credit the sport received
    In 1907, Volleyball was presented at the Playground of America convention as one of the most popular sports. This was the first credit the sport received, and helped to further the sport recognition.

    In the United States the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution is started in 1920, which outlawed the production and consumption of alcohol and was more commonly known as Prohibition.
  • First YMCA National Championship

    In 1922, the first YMCA national championships were held in Brooklyn, NY. 27 teams from 11 states were represented.
  • USA Volleyball Association was formed

    In 1928, it became clear that tournaments and rules were needed, the United States Volleyball Association (USVBA, now USA Volleyball) was formed. The first U.S. Open was staged, as the field was open to non-YMCA squads.

    By the 1930s money was scarce because of the depression, so people did what they could to make their lives happy. Movies were hot, parlor games and board games were popular. People gathered around radios to listen to the Yankees. Young people danced to the big bands.

    Since 1928, the USVBA, now known as USA Volleyball (USAV), has put on national men's and senior men's (age 35 and older) volleyball championships every year except during 1944 and 1945.

    The 90's saw a world wide increase of the use, production, and smuggling of the drug trade, with the drugs becoming more addictive and destructive. Many initiatives were tried to stop the growth and production but at this point in time it is still an increasing problem in our society . Possibly still the best chance of stemming the growth is through education .
