Alan Blake was born on 3 November 1922 in Masterton, New Zealand.
He is the creator of underwater hockey and the Secretary of the Southsea British Sub Aqua Club. -
Alan Blake started to have ideas on how to find a more fun way to spend time in the pool.
One day Alan came up with his idea for a winter sport
with his mates Ena Willis, Frank and Hazel Lilleker and his wife Sylvia. -
In 1963 John Towse and John Powell formally introduced the game into Southsea's training programme.

On December 19, 1968, John Bevan and John Towse teamed up and created the first underwater hockey tournament.

On 17 May 1969, John Bevan organised a national meeting to decide the official rules of the game.

After the 1973 tournament, the sport grew unpredictably and proved to be too much for one person to handle, so on April 10, 1976 at the Cheshunt
Football Clubhouse, the National Octopush Association was formed. -
The first appearance of this sport in a world championship was in 1978.
