    During the 1943 season, they merged with the Philadelphia Eagles forming the "Phil-Pitt Eagles" and were known as the "Steagles".

    They did qualify for a "Playoff Bowl" in 1962 as the second-best team in their conference.

    Since 1996, proceeds from the Terrible Towel have helped raise more than $2.5 million for schools.

    The current third uniform, consisting of a black jersey with gold lettering, white pants with black and gold stripes, and a gold helmet were first used during the Steelers' 75th anniversary season in 2007. They also had two other uniforms, and wore all of them in one season once
