    The Anglo-Saxons conquered England in 450AD c. They brought what is known as "Old English" to British shores.

    The french took over England in 1066 in the battle of hastings. The french controlled the places of the high ranking people, controlling the law and estatesof the country. English was pushed underground seen as the slum language and only spoken by peasants.The french ruled for 300 years.

    Black Plague
    The black plague came and olbitorated most of the french rulers, many peasants survived. With not many french left, families started to mix marry and hire english survants. This induced the raising of an english speaking generation as the mothers, nurses and peasant of french families were speaking english.

    Chaucer was an English writer at the time who lead to the standardisation of english. Cahucer wrote in "london English", this meant that people who wanted to read his books (reading meant the high of status) had to learn london english. This alsomean that people used Chaucer as the basics for thier writing.

    Thomas Caxton brought the printing press to England in 1476. Caxton was ducth, as he made translations and printed he added in letters where they looked right. This is where 'gh' came from.

    The Vikings added Them, Thier and They to English vocabulary. This is a major event owing to the evnt because function words, especially pronouns are particularly hard to add to.
