The Stamp Tax was imposed by Parliament to pay for growing debt in Britian due to the recent 7Years War. It required all paper to be made in Britian and taxed. The leaders of the American Colonies were very displeased with the lack of representation and inability to have a say in the tax.

After the events of the Boston Tea Party, the British Parliment passed acts to punish Boston for the distruction of properity by closing the port, altering the Massachusetts government, sending Americans to Britian for trial and forcing peopleto allow British soilders to live in thier home.

The first Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to adress the common concerns and send them to King George III. It included 56 representives from the 13 colonies. It was successful with creating a compact for all 13 colonies and established the Second Continental Congress.

The Congress met to construct a more official army against the British forces. They met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and included most of the people from the first Congress, but also included new representives like Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock.
