History Of The Atom

By cowlec
  • Isaac Newton

    Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was born in 1643 and died in 1727. He died from an illness. He developed the concept of the mechanical universe. Isaac made mechanical universe with small solid masses moving around.
  • Michael Faraday

Michael Faraday was born in 1791 and died in 1867. He developed laws of electrolysis from that he adapted the term ‘ion’ for particles responsible for carrying currents. There wouldn’t be the laws of electrochemistry.
  • G.J. Stoney

G.J. Stoney was born in 1826 and died in 1911. He figured out that electricity was made of negative particles. We wouldn’t know that electricity had negative particles today if he didn't do research on it.
  • James Clerk Maxwell

James Clerk Maxwell was born in 1831 and died in 1879. He died of cancer. James translated Michael Faraday's theories that are now called Maxwell equations. He also connected electromagnetic waves and light. We wouldn’t have this connection between light and electromagnetic waves today if he didn't research about it.
  • Sir William Crookes

Sir William Crookes was born in 1832 and died in 1919. His death is unknown. His reserch Influenced J. J Thomson to discover electrons. He figured out that cathode rays have a negative charge. We wouldn’t know that cathode rays have negative charges if he didn't do his research.
  • Dmitri Mendeleev

Dmitri Mendeleev was born in 1834 and died in 1907. He died from influenza. The Greeks had already proposed the atomic weight system. Dmitri invented the periodic table, if he didn't we wouldn’t know anything about the elements.
  • Wilhelm Roentgen

    • Born 1845• Died 1923• Death unknown• He discovered x-rays• • We wouldn’t have x-rays today
  • E. Goldstein

    • Born 1850• Died 1930• Death unknown• Discovered canal rays• That they have a positive charge• We wouldn’t know canal rays have a positive charge
  • Henri Becquerel

    • Born 1852• Died 1908• Death unknown• Research was influenced by Wilhelm Roentgens.• He discovered radiation in x-rays• We wouldn’t know what radiation was
  • Joseph John Thomson

Born 1856, died 1940.Noted for discovering electrons and isotopes, He invented the mass spectrometer. We wouldn’t have mass ratios or electrons.
  • Marie Sklodowska Curie

    Marie Sklodowska Curie
Marie Sklodowska Curie was born in 1867 and died in 1934. She died from leukemia. Her research was influenced by Henri Becquerel’s research on x-rays. She discovered radium and polonium.• We wouldn’t know what radium and polonium were
  • Ernest Rutherford

Born 1871, died 1937.He discovered rays called Alpha and Beta, a radioactive gas called Radon and the nucleus and protons of atoms. We wouldn’t know that rays were in radiation.
  • J. Plucker

Born 1801, died 1868. His death is unknown.
He built the first gas discharge tubes that are called “cathode ray tubes". We wouldn’t have the first cathode-ray tubes.
  • Democritus

    • Born 460 BC• Died 370 BC• Death unknown• Aristotle said all of his work was wrong and that atoms didn’t exist.• Atoms are invincible no matter what you try.• We now know that atoms can’t be split.
