  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Prohibited discrimination based on race, religion and national orgin. But, did not include people with disabilities
  • Voting Rights Act

    Gave voting rights to minorities
  • Fair Housing Act

    Prohibits discrimination in the process of renting or buying a house
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968

    Includes Title VIII, prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, national orgin and sex when purchasing a house
  • Section 504

    1973 Rehabilitation Act - prohibits discrimination based on disability
  • Section 504 Regulations were Issued

  • First ADA introduced to Congress

  • Amended Fair Housing Act

    Now including people of disabilities
  • Joint Hearing for ADA

    Including, Senate Subcommittee on Disability Policy and the House Subcommittee on Select Education
  • ADA is reintroduced to Congress

    Introduced in the 101st Congress by Senators Harkin and Durrenberger and Representatives Coelho and Fish
  • ADA Bill was sent to the House of Representatives

    After a 76 to 8 vote in the Senate
  • Signing of the ADA at the White House

  • Title II and Title III of ADA passed

    Now covered public accommodations and also Local and State Governments
  • Title I of ADA passed

    Included discrimination in employment
